Patience in Trading: Waiting for A+ Setups

Patience is a trading edge. Learn why waiting for high-probability setups beats trading every signal that appears. The A-plus setup filter, watchlists and.

Why Patience Is an Edge

Most traders overtrade. The average trader makes 5-10 trades per day when 1-2 would be optimal. Every trade has a cost (spread + commission + risk) and every additional trade increases the chance of a mistake. Patience — waiting for A+ setups — is a genuine statistical edge.

What an A+ Setup Looks Like

  • All criteria met: Trend, level, signal, and risk-reward all align
  • Clean chart: No major news in the next 24 hours, no conflicting signals
  • Obvious: If you have to convince yourself it's a setup, it isn't
  • Risk-reward > 1:2: The setup offers at least 2× your risk in potential reward

How to Build Patience

(1) Define your A+ setup in writing. If it doesn't meet all criteria, don't trade. (2) Set a maximum of 2 trades per day. (3) Keep a 'patience log' — track how many setups you skipped and whether they would have been profitable. (4) Remember: professional traders spend 90% of their time waiting and 10% executing.
